Extreme Ride Applications may be NOT reproduced with out the written permission of the Iron Butt Association.

1. The rides covered by these rules include:

2. Before you can apply for any ride referenced by these rules, you must satisfy the following conditions: To qualify for a Bun-Burner GOLD 3000 or CCC GOLD you must have at least completed one of the following; a Bun-Burner GOLD, a SaddleSore 2000, the Alberta 2000, Capitol 1000, Nevada 1100, Minnesota 1000, TimberButt, Tarbutt Rally, any Cognoscente Group event, any Reno BMW Long Distance Event or the Iron Butt Rally.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Other 24 and 36 hour rallies qualify. Their omission here is not intentional, it is just not possible to list all qualifying rallies. If you are unsure if a rally you finished is acceptable, please contact Michael Kneebone.

3. Each leg of a back-to-back series must be completed start to finish in the time allowed for a single leg, AND all legs of a back-to-back series must be completed start to finish in no more than the total time calculated by adding the time allowed for each independent leg in the series. The term "leg" refers to the individual rides of a back to back series.

For example, to claim a Bun Burner GOLD 3000, each leg of these rides must be completed independently in 24 hours, AND both legs in under 48 hours overall. To claim triple BBGs, each leg must be completed independently in 24 hours, AND all three legs in under 72 hours overall. To claim a CCC GOLD, each leg must be completed independently in 50 hours, AND both legs in under 100 hours overall.

4. Time left over from a previous leg in a back-to-back series may not be used to lengthen the time allowed for successive legs in the series. The clock for consecutive legs in a back-to-back series must be started exactly on or before the maximum time has expired for the previous leg in the back-to-back series.

Under rule 4 there are two options for handling the midpoint between consecutive legs. In one case a rider may use the ending time of the first leg as the starting time of the second leg. If a rider chooses this option they will be sacrificing any remaining time of the first leg. This valuable time could have been used for much needed rest.

The suggested method of handling the midpoint between consecutive legs is to use any remaining time on the first leg for rest. A rider may even rest beyond the maximum time allowed for the first leg, because the clock for the second leg of a back to back series will AUTOMATICALLY start at the end of the maximum time allowed for the first leg.

5. To document a Bun-Burner GOLD 3000, or CCC GOLD the following procedures are to be followed.

At the start of the first leg obtain signatures on standard Iron Butt witness forms. Then obtain a time/date/place stamped gas receipt. The witness forms serve to document your starting mileage, and backup your starting time. The time/date/place gas receipt is the official starting time of your first leg.

During the first and second legs of your ride, at each fuel stop obtain a time/date/place stamped gas receipt. Keep a log of your fuel stops, and log any other stop longer than 30 minutes. If you get a receipt at any stop other than a fuel stop, save the receipt and log the stop.

At the end of the first leg of your ride, obtain signatures on standard Iron Butt witness forms. The earliest time recorded on these witness forms will be the official end time of the first leg of your ride. If time is short and you cannot find a witness you may substitute one of the following: a time/date/place stamped signed receipt, or an automatic teller machine receipt drawn on your bank account. Then obtain witness signatures with all haste!

The beginning of the second leg of your ride officially starts when the clock runs out on your first leg, or when you obtain a time/date/place stamped gas receipt; whichever comes first. In either case you must obtain a time/date/place stamped gas receipt before leaving on the start of the second leg of your ride.

At the end of your ride obtain a time/date/place stamped gas receipt. The time on this receipt is the official end time of your overall ride. As soon as possible obtain signatures on standard Iron Butt witness forms.

As these are advance rides, this is a certification program only (certificate only) and does NOT include a pin or plate back as it is assumed you have these items by now!
